Floor Tile Types
Floor tiles nowadays come in all kinds of designs and can be made from all kinds of materials. The choice you make here will, in part, depend on the floor you want to tile and on your personal preference. Popular floor tiles at the moment include:
- Carpet tiles - many people choose to tile rooms in carpet tiles. These tiles tend to be made from hard wearing carpet and are often used for kitchens and bathrooms.
- Ceramic tiles - these tiles come with various options and can be unglazed or glazed. Unglazed ceramic tiles are often good for floors where you need a non-slippery surface. Porcelain tiles are always a popular option here.
- Cork tiles - cork tiles remain a popular choice here especially given their ease of installation and soft feel underfoot.
- Natural stone tiles - there are various options here including marble, granite, slate and limestone. The kind of material that you choose here may have a bearing on how hard or soft the floor will be and how absorbent is it.
- Quarry tiles - these tiles are made from clay which is specially treated to make tiles. Terracotta tiles are a popular option here.
- Vinyl tiles - these tiles often come as a peel and stick solution so can be the easiest tiles to place on a floor. They are popular due to their hard wearing reputation.
Do bear in mind that some tiles may need some extra work after they have been laid. So, for example, some stone tiles may absorb liquids easily so may need to be sealed before they can be used.
